ThreeJars was an idea that had percolated for some time. Despite a career in finance, I found it hard to speak to my kids about money. While I didn't want them to feel entitled, I didn't want them to stress over money either. I had resisted paying allowance because it usually turned into frivolous spending. Were these the right money habits to learn? Was allowance even important? How could we get them to delay gratification or think about others? From these tangled roots grew ThreeJars. Then came the 2008 economic meltdown. Many started to think about money differently with renewed conviction to teach their children well: keep it real, make it fun, and turn practice into good habits. And so here we are two years and hundreds of design iterations later, a solution that?s tailored for kids and a huge benefit for parents Sensible adults have known for some time that if you do not learn to manage money responsibly it will end up managing you. If we're lucky, we also understand that by helping others we are really helping ourselves. Both of these values are at the core of ThreeJars. My own kids use it and love it. We hope yours will too. Warm regards, |
